- Literacy - Read nightly and discuss what you've read.
- Word Work - Practice your word sort.
- Math - Practice telling the time on both analog and digital clocks. Do you see many clocks in your home? What about around Singapore?
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Think about the habitats you have learned about and the imbalances that can happen. Talk with your family about what types of action you can take!
Term 4: Week 6 and 7
- Literacy - Read nightly and discuss what you've read.
- Word Work - Practice your word sort.
- Math - Talk with your family about when you might use fractions.
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Are you interested in learning more about a habitat? Do more research at home and tell us all about what you find out!
Term 4: Week 4 and 5
- Literacy - Read nightly and discuss what you've read.
- Word Work - Practice your word sort.
- Math - Practice multiplication facts (2x3, 2x4, 2x5, etc)
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Start looking at the natural environment around your home. What do you observe? What wonderings do you have?
Term 4: Week 1 and 2
- Literacy - Read nightly and discuss what you've read.
- Word Work - Practice your word sort.
- Math - Think about where you might see a grid at home or around town? When would using a grid be useful?
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Draw a map of something and explain what it tells about the area.
Term 3: Week 9 and 10
- Literacy - Read nightly. Think about your reading goal. Which strategy can you practice at home?
- Word Work - Practice your word sort. Think about other ways you can practice your words and try something new. Can you write a story that makes sense using all of your words?
- Math - Practice different addition and subtraction strategies with two digit numbers. Bring in some examples to share.
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Discuss with your family what action you can take, now that we have finished our unit, How we organize ourselves. Think about what you can do with your learning!
Term 3: Week 7 and 8
- Literacy - Read nightly. Think about your reading goal. Which strategy can you practice at home?
- Word Work - Practice your word sort. Think about other ways you can practice your words and try something new.
- Math - Practice different addition and subtraction strategies with two digit numbers. Bring in some examples to share.
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Discuss with your family how exchange helps the community (where you live, work or play).
Term 3: Week 5 and 6
- Literacy - Read nightly. Think about your reading goal. Which strategy can you practice at home?
- Word Work - Practice your word sort. Think about other ways you can practice your words and try something new.
- Math - Explore different currencies at home and think about the numbers used. For example, do you think 10,000 South Korean Won is the same as 10,000 Singapore dollars?
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Think about what you do each day or on the weekend. What kind of exchanges do you notice?
Term 3: Week 2 and 3
- Literacy - Read nightly. Think about your reading goal. Which strategy can you practice at home?
- Word Work - Practice your word sort. Think about other ways you can practice your words and try something new.
- Math - Practice making number patterns.
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Notice images in different places. Think and talk about what you think they mean.
Term 2: Week 6 and 7
- Literacy -
- Read nightly. Think about your reading goal. Try making an inference about a character or situation in your book. Remember to use the clues about what you already know, and in the text and pictures.
- Word Work - Practice your word sort. Think about other ways you can practice your words and try something new.
- Math - Create a poster, song, book, drawing (or something else) to show your understanding of how 2D and 3D shapes are connected. What's similar? What's different?
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - When you are out and about, take note of signs, symbols and their colours. Tell your family what it means.
Term 2: Week 4 and 5
- Literacy -
- Read nightly. Think about your reading goal. Which strategy can you practice at home?
- Word Work - Practice your word sort. Think about other ways you can practice your words and try something new.
- Math - Go on a shape hunt at home! What kinds of 2D and 3D shapes can you find? Collect and organise your data and bring it to class to share.
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Think about what you want to do to show how change in matter connects to your life. (Remember this will be done in class.) Reflect on this unit. What did you learn? What are questions you still have?
Term 2: Week 2 and 3
- Literacy -
- Read nightly. Think about your reading goal. Which strategy can you practice at home?
- Ask mom or dad to take photos of you doing something (tying shoes, making a sandwich, doing an experiment, morning routine). Email photos to Ms. Luttrell. You will use these photos to write a 'How-to" piece at school.
- Word Work - Practice your word sort. Think about other ways you can practice your words and try something new.
- Math - Discuss different types of measurement (length, weight, volume) and tools we use to measure. Do you notice tools that are used at home to measure things?
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Discuss the ways matter can change.
Term 1: Week 9 and 10
- Literacy -
- Read nightly. Practice asking questions before, during and after reading. Does this strategy help you with your comprehension (understanding)?
- Find your favourite recipe. What does a recipe include?
- Word Work - Practice your word sort. Think about other ways you can practice your words and try something new.
- Math - Ask your family members a question and gather information. How can you organise this information? Bring it in to share!
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Choose three different items. How can you describe these using your senses of sight, smell and touch?
Term 1: Week 7 and 8
- Literacy - Read nightly. Practice a strategy such as visualising or summarising (retelling the story). If you haven't practiced sending an email, you can work on that!
- Word Work - Practice your word sort a few times (sort, look-say-cover-write-check, spelling pattern word hunt, pyramid/staircase words, use them in a sentence)
- Math - Practice the addition strategies you have tried out at school. Teach your parents or siblings how to use a 100 chart, draw base 10 blocks or the split strategy!
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Discuss if there were challenges in communicating with people when you moved to a new place.
Term 1: Week 5 and 6
- Reading - Read nightly. Don't forget to record your reading in your reading log!
- Writing - Email your teacher once about something you did during the week. Use transition/time words (first, after, later, on Tuesday). Think about how to start and end an email.
- Word Work - Practice your word sorts a few times (sort, look-say-cover-write-check, spelling pattern word hunt, pyramid/staircase words, use them in a sentence)
- Math - Practice adding and subtracting multiples of ten (54+10, 63+20, 72-10, 98-30).
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Think about the different relationships you have and how you communicate with these people. Share your ideas with your family!
Term 1: Week 3 and 4
- Reading - Read nightly. Get to know your Home Reading Log book (coming home on Tuesday).
- Word Work - Practice sorting your words at least 2 times this week (you will get your words on Tuesday).
- Math - Do one Mathletics assignments this week (log in cards coming home Wednesday).
- Unit of Inquiry (UoI) - Talk about what you are learning about communication.
